Why Is Pablo All Over the Place?
I promise you that was the one and only time I referred to myself in the third person. So why add yet another blog to the already staggering ocean of online content? In short, because I need to sort my thoughts out loud, to give shape to ideas that otherwise would drift away in the noise. I want a place where I can confront both promising seeds and useless mindfarts and turn them into something coherent. Some of these ideas are simply for my own benefit; a written record that they were mine to claim. Others are calls to action, invitations to anyone who has the means that I am missing to them up and materialize them. If I don’t commit these thoughts to text, they will vanish, like mist in the morning sun. If I do, they might help us take one more step, however little, in the direction of the world I want to live in.
You need to know that, for personal reasons that I may or may not reveal in due time, I only started truly living quite recently, and since then I have been in a race with myself to make up for lost time. I have been sampling every experience I once only dared to imagine: accepting invitations and challenges that once intimidated me, jumping into creative pursuits that felt beyond my reach, and building skills that were once a nothing but a nebulous dream. I will continue to try everything I once hoped for, and note this: It's not as a checklist, it is the natural, pleasurable, human experience of life. I want to achieve milestones that matter to me and make me grow. I want to feel the thrill of new discoveries and the quiet satisfaction of small victories. I know I'm not the first, and I will certainly not be the last, but now I sense that the time has come to share this unfolding story; to let others see what it looks like when someone decides to stop waiting and start doing.
Looking back, I think about the years I have spent writing for others as a copywriter, but this is the first time I am writing from a personal place. Sure, I will share some stuff about my professional life; my work in tutoring, language acquisition, and writing/editing, but that is not my main focus. I want to share the quirks and obsessions that color my off-hours. You will read tales of the impossible student who tested every ounce of my patience and the chill one who reminded me why I love teaching in the first place. You will hear about the WoW raid I spectacularly wiped on and the unforgettable one I managed to clear without a single casualty. You will see that my handwriting remains at kindergarten level, while my sketches are pretty good (if I do say so myself). You will discover how obtaining my first master’s degree ignited a hunger for academia so fierce that I enrolled in a second program, and why a PhD will have to wait for now.
Bottomline, I have a proposition for you. I intend to help you by sharing all the little treasures I've discovered so far, and sure, I may be willing to do a little free-of-charge writing to help your business (but please do credit me). In return, I hope you will help me by offering feedback, challenging my assumptions, and joining me in turning these ideas into reality. Do we have a deal?
